01 What is domain registration?
Domain registration is the process of reserving a domain name with an accredited registrar for a defined period, typically one year. During that time, the domain is exclusively yours. At the end of the registration period, you have the option to renew and retain ownership, or allow it to lapse.
Domain registration is usually near-instant. Once you complete your purchase, your domain is registered, and the DNS becomes active within minutes. It may take up to 24–48 hours for DNS to fully propagate across all resolvers worldwide, though most locations will reflect the change within a few hours.
Yes, you can transfer an existing domain to Host4Geeks from most registrars. You’ll need to unlock the domain at your current registrar and obtain the authorization (EPP) code. Our team can assist with the process if you run into any issues. Transfers typically take 5–7 days to complete, during which your domain continues to function normally.
Not at all. A domain transfer between registrars doesn’t affect your website or email services as long as your DNS records remain unchanged. Your site stays live throughout the transfer process.
