It’s the holiday season and most of you are spending quality time with your friends and family. However, for some this past weekend has been nothing less than a nightmare and this included one of our existing clients who had a VPS with a provider called A Small Orange.
I noticed his tweet about his VPS being offline for over 12 hours, some more digging and searching on twitter showed that he was not alone. Apparently the said provider was experiencing an issue with it’s cloud infrastructure causing a lot of VPSes to be inaccessible and the apparently the situation still continues as of now after 4 days (Source: Twitter).
This client of ours, reached out me and asked if I could help him get his website up as downtime during the holiday season was causing major loses in business. I gladly offered to help, however there was a catch, since his existing server was completely offline and inaccessible there was no way for us to get hands on his files or a latest backup asking the provider for it didn’t help either. Fortunately enough he had a backup made in November.
We quickly deployed a Managed VPS for him at our East Coast datacenter, configured and setup the nameservers and pointed his domain to the new server with us and started working on restoring his old backup with a subsequent plan to re-sync his data once his VPS was accessible again. In about 2 hours time we were able to get this website backup and online and all of this without a single dollar of upfront payment. It was more important to get his website online, invoices and bills can always be taken care of later.
