Greetings from Host4Geeks!

This is an advisory notification only at this moment and no changes are required at your end.

As part of our commitment to providing the best possible service we can to our clients, we will be upgrading the server hardware for our VPS Nodes in LA (West Coast, US) over the course of this month, i.e June 2017.

The current server's hardware is getting long in the tooth and is running some outdated legacy hardware, we will be upgrading these nodes to current generation hardware that will result in improved performance and reliability for our esteemed clients.

The new servers specifications would be along the lines of:

  • Dual Intel Xeon E5 processors with 12 Cores as opposed to 8 at this moment.
  • At least 64GB of RAM on each VPS Node.
  • Newer and Faster Hard Drives.

With this move, we will also be moving these servers to our newer and improved network POP (Point of Presence) in Los Angeles which not only offers greater capacity but also advanced DDoS mitigation capabilities.

Timeline:

Starting Wednesday (July 25th, 2017) - 00:00 AM Pacific Time we will begin the process of moving the VPS servers one at a time. You will receive an email approximately 10 minutes prior to the migration of your VPS, although your existing server and websites shall remain online, we request you to not make any changes during the transition.

Once the VPS has been moved, you will receive another email with the new IP address for your server, we will be switching the licenses such as cPanel and Softaculous to this new IP. Once you receive the new IP you are requested to change any DNS settings on your end that may be required, such as the glue records for your name servers at your domain registrar. We will be making the required changes within your VPS, such as the IP changes for the DNS Zones and cPanel accounts that may be required.

Once again, you will not see any downtime during this period as your existing VPS and IPs shall remain online however in order to avoid conflict and data being out of date we would request you to complete the changes within 24 hours of your VPS being migrated to ensure that your traffic flows to the new server with us.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. As always, if you have questions or issues, please submit them at https://backyard.host4geeks.com/

Below are answers to some questions you'll probably have:

Q: Will there be any downtime?
A: No there will be no downtime and your existing VPS and IPs will remain online during the transition.

Q: Is there anything I need to do?
A: No, we'll take care of everything. Sit back, relax, and let us do the heavy lifting, just keep an eye on your emails for the required DNS IP changes. :)

Q: When will you move my servers?
A: This depends on a number of factors such as how fast the container before yours migrated, how fast the node before yours migrated, how quickly our staff are able to complete post-migration tasks, etc. As such, we cannot give you an exact time frame to expect migration.

Q: How can I tell if my VPS has been moved?
A: You will receive an email when your migration has been completed with the new IP address/s for your VPS.
